Understanding Oregon’s Tax and Spend Problem Under The Democrats

Under Democrat Governors, Oregon has doubled unsustainable spending every ten years. During this same period of time public sector employment as grown by 19,900 jobs, and Oregon has lost 128,800 private sector jobs!

These are related – as taxes have gone up money available for investment and business growth has been reduced. The growth of government has created a drain of capital and eroded incentives for investment. This is why private sector jobs have disappeared – they were killed by government taxation and out of control spending.

This is unsustainable! Oregon’s spending problem has now reached a point where no increase in new taxes can keep up with the uncontrolled spending of the Democrats in Salem. Oregon must reduce the size and cost of state government to a sustainable level. More than just ‘resetting’ the state government, Oregon must cut taxes and make our state friendlier for private sector investment.
To repair Oregon’s faltering economy we must reduce the burden of taxes, increase incentives for investment and help Oregon business recapitalize, reinvest and grow. If we are to create new jobs, we must rebalance government spending and taxation so that it does not siphon capital away from business investment.

As this chart shows, the problem was created by the Democrats in Salem. Under John Kitzhaber government grew and the Oregon economy went from strong to weak. To make Oregon’s economy healthy again we need leadership that understands business and the need to limit government employment and spending. This means the Governor and the Legislative leadership needs to change.

Oregon Republicans will make capital available to business by providing incentives for private sector job creation, innovation and reward entrepreneurial risks consistent with the value and efficiency of the private company’s ability to produce value.  This will create new jobs and get Oregon back to work.
