ORP Chairman files ethics complaint against Oregon House Speaker Dave Hunt

PORTLAND, Ore. –  Oregon Republican Party Chairman Bob Tiernan filed an ethics complaint today against Democratic House Speaker Dave Hunt and Ways and Means Co-Chair Peter Buckley for trading millions of taxpayer dollars for votes to pass a  huge tax increase on Oregon families and small businesses with the Oregon Government Ethics Commission.

“This is the kind of ‘pay for play’ politics which Oregonians hate,” Chairman Tiernan said on Thursday morning. “Our Ethics Commission complaint against the Speaker is intended to expose the pork barrel practices of the Democrats in Salem which have made Oregon one of the highest taxed states in the country. The practice of trading government money for votes to pass tax increases shows the lengths the Democratic controlled legislature will go to advance their liberal agenda and it must stop immediately.”

In a letter today to the Oregon Ethics Commission, Chairman Tiernan asked that the Speaker of the House Dave Hunt be investigated for a letter written to an eastern Oregon legislator promising state funding of local projects in exchange for support of legislation to increase corporate and personal income taxes to unprecedented levels.
